When this was an exciting global business, the personalities behind the music were frequently more interesting than the performers. Often artistes are rather dull characters; their skill is making the music. Those providing the facilities, exposing it, promoting it, selling it were far more amusing. They needed to be exciting and imaginative; they brought the sounds to our attention. The decline of those personalities has been one of the hidden tragedies of this sad century. |
