Carried in the wonderful News of the World under the headline Pervert In The Park; the background had mysteriously changed into a wood (not a river) with families strolling past. I was "ogling", according to the paper.
The PCC - in an incredible decision - chose not to believe the paper's story. But, nervous of alienating the Editor, they decided not to rule either way on the complaint. Extraordinary.
The code clearly bans any dodgy practices but the fact that they did not believe the paper's excuse was not enough to condemn them.
I was in the park at the request of the appalling Nick Hornby (not the talented one) who was doing a "supportive" TV interview with me. He suddenly had to spend a penny and left me sitting waiting for him for ten minutes.
Afterwards he denied "tipping off" the paper about my presence.
Oh yeah?!!
