Watching David Niven in Carrington VC, made in 1954 when I was 9, I saw where modern movie making has gone wrong. Special effects and gimmicks have replaced plot. Stars have replaced actors.
In black and white, without any spectacle, you couldn't take your eyes off it.
The plot was great, the characters touched you, the dialogue was highly intelligent.
It's not a great film and never was but by God there are lessons to be learnt by movies like this.
